The Deepest Canyon

a man discover canyon by horse

A morning ride to Kagbeni, following the bed of the Kali Gandaki River—by some calculations the deepest canyon in the world—takes you through arid, almost lunar landscape.

A sturdy Himalayan pony is surely the best way to take in Mustang’s weird scenery, lying between the towering, 26000-feet massifs of Annapurna to the east and Dhaulagiri to the west. With an MLN horseman as your guide on your morning ride, you’ll trot past summer nomad camps and isolated orchards, through meadows and brooks, to aforementioned Kagbeni (subject of a movie by the same name), and be back to soak off the dust of the road in a blissful bath by mid afternoon.

Communities across Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts we Communities across Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts were devastated on 26 August 2026, when a sudden surge in the Bhotekoshi river caused a flash flood through settlements including Syabrubesi, Timure, Betrawati, and Mailung. Our thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones, and with those injured, displaced, and still unaccounted for. Our team across Sherpa Hospitality Group has come together to contribute toward relief efforts, in collaboration with the Pasang Lhamu Foundation. All funds raised will go toward the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support relief and recovery for the affected communities. Please join us in supporting this cause. Link in bio to donate.

Tomijong Lodge sits at 1,432 metres in the Modi va Tomijong Lodge sits at 1,432 metres in the Modi valley, just off the main Annapurna circuit. Traditional stone buildings, rice terraces on every side, and Machhapuchhre as a constant presence on the horizon. An hour from Pokhara by road, followed by a ninety-minute walk through forest and farmland. One of the quietest, most rewarding stays in the Mountain Lodges of Nepal network. #mountainlodgesofnepal #colorfulannapurna
Ice Lake sits at 4,620 metres above Manang village Ice Lake sits at 4,620 metres above Manang village, the highest point of the Dramatic Manang Trek. The trail climbs higher and the air gets thinner, but the reward is one of the widest panoramas in the Annapurna region. Annapurna II, III, IV, and Gangapurna laid out across the horizon, reflected in still glacial water. A full day hike from Manang, and one of the most rewarding on the trek. #mountainlodgesofnepal #dramaticmanang #icelake
Everest Base Camp at 5,364 metres is not just a de Everest Base Camp at 5,364 metres is not just a destination. It is a place where the scale of the Himalayas finally becomes real.
Everest towers directly above. Nuptse and Lhotse rise on either side. Pumori stands to the northwest. The air is thin, the light is sharp, and the peaks around you include four of the highest mountains on earth. With Mountain Lodges of Nepal, the journey here spans 12 days, trekking through Sherpa villages and flying above the Khumbu before Base Camp finally comes into view. #mountainlodgesofnepal #iconiceverest #everestbasecamp
